ERP offers new database option for SMBs that delivers enterprise-class performance, yet cuts complexity and cost
FairCom and TOTVS Integrate c‑treeACE® Database in Protheus ERP System to Meet Growing SMB Demand
Note: c-treeACE became FairCom DB in November 2020
Columbia, Mo. – May 29, 2013 – FairCom, a company that builds high-performance database technology, today announces the immediate availability of FairCom’s c‑treeACE® as a database option for the Protheus ERP system from TOTVS, the biggest software company in emerging countries, and the sixth largest ERP software company in the world.
Natively integrated, the Protheus ERP system with c‑treeACE requires less hardware, and no expert administration, yet delivers a higher level of performance than systems with more expensive and complex-to-manage databases. For a long time, the NoSQL edition of c‑treeACE has been integrated into Protheus ERP to provide metadata and temporary storage. Now, c‑treeACE with full SQL functionality is available to TOTVS customers around the globe to store and manage application data as well.
Traditionally, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems were out-of-reach for small and medium businesses (SMBs) because these systems were too costly and technically complex, requiring expert IT managers and database administrators (DBAs) to set-up and run. As SMBs are increasingly adopting information systems that encompass finance/accounting, manufacturing, sales and service, customer relationship management (CRM), and supply chain relationships, they are demanding the full functionality of enterprise ERP systems, but without the high costs and technical requirements. The addition of the c‑treeACE option to the Protheus ERP product line of commercial databases gives SMBs a low-cost, easy-to-use, yet high-performance ERP system alternative they didn’t have before.
According to Wilson Godoy, software management vice president at TOTVS, “After more than ten years of partnership between TOTVS and FairCom, we can always count on them! We’ve worked on many projects together, among them the distributed data access for the internal dictionary, which is an important step in the Protheus scalability project. Today, there are over 4,000 simultaneous connections with proper performance–these would not be possible without this close partnership. The novelty is that, from now on, FairCom will also provide a solution to the main base of Protheus: in another beautiful joint development, our teams have implemented a solution that integrates the c‑treeACE SQL database natively with Protheus through TOTVS’ AdvPL interface, maximizing the advantages of both technologies. A result that TOTVS is proud to extend to all its customers!”
SMBs using Protheus ERP with the c‑treeACE database can use entry-level servers to achieve high levels of performance. This hardware requirement mirrors the average hardware typically found at SMBs, thus eliminating the need for additional costly hardware purchases by customers. This high performance translates into a higher level of satisfaction to SMB customers for transactions like Point-of-Sale (POS) and credit card approvals where long processing times are unacceptable to consumers.
An additional strength of c‑treeACE is its advanced security features that include new encryption techniques (increasing the key length and encrypting additional resources) and additional access controls. This enhanced security is essential for industries such as retail, medical and logistics with sensitive data that must be protected from unauthorized access.
c‑treeACE is a cross-platform database engine that supports both fast, record-oriented ISAM interfaces (the original key value pair stores now called NoSQL) and industry-standard relational interfaces within the same application. Further, c‑treeACE is the only database that allows developers to continue to innovate and optimize both ISAM and SQL, and enjoy the optimal mix of each technology’s unique performance benefits. This advantage is particular to c‑treeACE’s implementation in TOTVS’s Protheus, which takes advantage of the ISAM layer where beneficial, but keeps a fully relational solution where it is required. This tight integration between the companies’ technologies means better quality support and faster response time for end users.
c‑treeACE gives superior flexibility by working with a complete range of popular programming languages (e.g., C, C#, C++, Visual Basic, etc.), development tools (e.g., Visual Studio, IDE, etc.), operating systems (e.g., Windows, Mountain Lion, Linux), and hardware platforms that support a wide variety of forms of data, applications and environments.
c‑treeACE SQL Server is now available from TOTVS, and is priced based on the number of physical cores of the servers. TOTVS is offering a special 30 percent discount on the c‑treeACE database until December 2013.
