Announcing the c-treeACE Replication Agent

The FairCom team is pleased to present our new c‑treeACE Replication Agent. The Replication Agent is the latest example of our continuing dedication to empowering developers with precision-engineered technology.
Replication support has long been built into c‑treeACE at the low level, so it is designed for high performance from the start. It uses very low bandwidth for sending updated data from one database server to another. This allows it to provide extremely low latency updates, achieving near real-time replication. Easy to install and maintain, it has minimal impact on the source server to extract the updated data.
There are several ways businesses can take immediate advantage of c‑treeACE Replication Agent, including:
Failover and High Availability: A separate, independent server is constantly updated with changes from the master server. With proper logic, the system can “failover” to the replicated data if the main server is interrupted, preserving the original data and the current transactions.
Reports or Data Warehouse: A replica of one or more production databases can be readily available for data warehousing or reporting, eliminating any overhead these operations may put on the production servers.
Backup: An up-to-date parallel environment for maintenance, backups, or migration. The replicated database can be quiesced for backup, so the non-stop production system can be constantly backed up with no impact on the live transactions (after backup, the Replication Agent brings the replicated database up-to-date).
Development: A full copy of live production data for developers and QA so they are not limited to a small subset of data for testing. When going live with updates, superior testing reduces the risk of errors due to lack of test data.
The Replication Agent runs invisibly in the background with little-to-no administrator intervention required. Easy to set up and manage, it comprises an administration utility and several test tools that help one operate and monitor one’s replication environment. The servers do not need to be on the same platforms. Due to the low bandwidth consumed, the servers can be geographically remote and yet have the updated data immediately available in near real-time.
Additional benefits of the c‑treeACE Replication Agent include:
- Maximum CPU availability for main applications by offloading secondary applications from the main server. Allows less mission critical—though business-crucial—usage, such as reports, data warehouses, data mining or Business Intelligence to run on different servers with the same data.
- Full-time availability of the main production database, minimizing batch windows, extending time for backup operations, migration projects and maintenance.
- Off-line development environments for tests, QA, and other “sandboxes” using real data, avoiding costly extractions of data subsets.
- Near real-time synchronization of data at remote sites, such as stores, branches, and field offices, thanks to low latency and low bandwidth technology.
