Enhanced Performance on Advanced Sun Hardware

FairCom has consistently strived to obtain as much performance and scalability from the c-tree Server engine as possible. Recently, our engineers had the opportunity to work directly at a Sun Microsystems performance testing laboratory. The combined experience of the Sun engineers alongside the c-tree Server core developers allowed us to examine performance and scalability as never before.

Taking advantage of the massive hardware provided with the large number of processors along with the latest tools from the Sun Solaris 10 operating system, we were able to quickly identify subtle areas to greatly enhance performance.

Phil Harman, the Sun engineer at the testing laboratory, has written a blog entry discussing the methodology and results obtained in this experience.

Multiple Threads - Prstat + DTrace + Zones + ZFS + E25K = A Killer Combination

The database mentioned in this posting is the c-tree Server and Mr. Harman's post delves into Solaris-specific techniques used to improve performance.
