Unique Architecture

The c-treeSQL Server shares the same core engine as our standard high performance c-tree Server with an additional SQL layer built on top. Hence you can access all of the API's available with the standard c-tree Server, in addition to a functionally-complete SQL interface. As the diagram below shows, the API's in orange are available to the standard c-tree Server including the low-level, ISAM, c-treeDB C, c-treeDB C++, .NET, and VCL/CLX API's. The c-treeSQL supports all of those plus the API's in blue, including ODBC, JDBC, DBX, interactive SQL and embedded SQL.

What further distinguishes the c-treeSQL Server is that you can use any combination of these API's concurrently within the same application, giving you performance AND industry-standard access!

Preserve Your Existing Code

You've spent years polishing your code to ensure that the data management functionality and performance are near-perfect (and all the bugs are gone, too!). As a result, you might be hesitant to move into c-treeSQL and abandon that near-perfect code. Our response is that you don't need to! Use all of your existing code and leverage the SQL-interface for your customers' back-end reporting needs. A common concern we hear from customers who first learn of the c-treeSQL Server is that they don't want to sacrifice any of the exceptional performance that they get using the traditional ISAM and low-level APIs with the standard c-tree Server. However, as we mentioned above, the c-treeSQL Server is a superset of the traditional c-tree Server. Hence, your familiar ISAM and low-level API calls bypass the SQL layer altogether, ensuring that your performance stays at the peak levels you are accustomed to with the standard c-tree Server.

Each c-treeSQL Server includes both a Type IV JDBC driver and a c-treeSQL ODBC driver, allowing you to seamlessly provide this level of access.

Customers are also discovering that the c-treeSQL ODBC driver included with the c-treeSQL Server results in increased performance as compared with the c-tree Plus ODBC driver available for the c-tree Server. Why? The c-treeSQL ODBC driver performs all of the processing of queries on the server, whereas much of that processing is performed on the client-side with the standard c-tree Server and ODBC driver. This makes more efficient use of the server and dramatically reduces overall network overhead.

Another advantage of the c-treeSQL ODBC driver is that the drivers that come with the c-treeSQL Server can be deployed at no additional charge, and can be used by any number of users that require a connection to the c-treeSQL Server. Contrast this with our ODBC drivers for the traditional c-tree Server, where each end-user must have a license for the ODBC driver. Many customers find that this actually makes the c-treeSQL Server a more affordable alternative as compared to purchasing a standard c-tree Server and individual ODBC drivers for each end-user that requires an ODBC connection.
